What is Lymphatic Therapy?

Gentle and effective full-body decongestion

Lymphatic Therapy provides hands-on gentle and effective decongestion for our lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the body's primary purification system, cleansing the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. Additionally, it delivers nutrients to the cells, aiding the immune system by transporting white blood cells and helping to identify and neutralize harmful invaders. When our lymphatic system is working properly, we have a better chance of optimal health. Lymphatic Therapy is linked to better immune health, more accelerated recovery from illness or surgery, and an overall feeling of peace and wellbeing.

What is the Lymphatic System?

Your body’s network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins.

The lymphatic system is a vital part of the immune system consisting of lymphatic vessels which are similar to the circulatory system's veins and capillaries, lymphatic fluid, lymph nodes and lymphoid organs (spleen, thymus, appendix, and tonsils). The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body where it is filtered by the lymph nodes to help rid the body of toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. The clean lymph fluid then returns to the bloodstream.

The lymphatic system has no pump of its own and is dependent on the movement of our muscles to indirectly move the lymph fluid. Our lymphatic system becomes sluggish, congested and even clogged due to stress, lack of exercise, toxic debris, improper diet, prescription drugs, surgery, and many other reasons. This congestion leads to impaired immunity and disease.

How does Lymphatic Therapy assist your lymphatic system?

Lymphatic Therapy decongests and moves the stagnant lymph fluid, improving your general health, strengthening your immune system, and increasing your overall energy. It also increases your sense of well-being as it turns off your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and turns on your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and healing) during the session.

Lymphatic Therapy is sometimes referred to as lymphatic drainage massage; however, the word massage is a misnomer because the treatment is not what one would think of as a massage. The touch for Lymphatic Therapy is exceptionally light, almost like moving a rose petal on top of still water. That is all that is needed to move the lymph fluid.

What should I expect after a treatment?

Each client’s reactions vary. Most everyone initially feels relaxed and experiences a greater sense of wellbeing. Sometimes there can be a detoxifying effect that happens later: headache, tiredness, body aches, loose bowels. It is imperative to follow instructions for after-session care, the most important of which is drinking plenty of water.
